To Kamari

A short walk from our accommodation. Offers fresh pastries that will leave you craving for more. They are all made in house and they also serve up one of the best coffees on the island.

Ston Pyrgo

Approximately 20 km from Katapola town you will find a traditional Greek meze tavern. It’s worth the drive out there to indulge in their local home-made local dishes.

Katomeritissa

Finishing up from Pyrgo and a 1 minute drive is Katomeritissa. A small local little coffee shop that serves up sweets. The atmosphere is that of a traditional Greek coffee shop where locals congregate especially after siesta. Their sweets are simply magnificent.

Kastanis - Chora

Set in the centre of Chora and right on a traditional whitewashed winding alley is Kastanis. A small place to eat traditional Greek food including the famous Amorgian dish “patatato”.

Kallisto - Chora

Kallisto in Chora and a small walk from the other restaurants. It offers some of the best sweets and ice cream our area has. Worth the visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Psimeni is a special drink unique to Amorgos!

It's made with honey and cloves, and each place has its own way of making it. People drink Psimeni before or after meals, at parties, at home, and in restaurants. In restaurants they will often serve you a shot of psimeni on the house, after your meal. It is also widely available to purchase in many places.

Fava

You must try Fava in Amorgos. It is one of the best you will encounter in all of Greece. Fava is a nutritious Greek dish made from yellow peas, packed with minerals. It's often referred to as "poor man's meat" because it's high in protein. Typically, it's served with thinly sliced red onion, olive oil, and lemon. In Amorgos fava is a local specialty.

Cheese

In Amorgos, you can find various types of cheese like xynomyzithra, myzithra, kefalotiri, kopanisti, and more. Most of these cheeses are made from goat's milk because there are many goats on the island, which you'll notice as you explore. Almost every household on the island makes their own cheese. When dining in Amorgos, opt for the recommendation of their local cheeses to accompany your salads or meals.

Xerotigana

The festival of Xerotigana is on 5th September in Aigiali. Here you will join the locals in eating and watching them make this delicacy and dancing to traditional music. It is a traditional sweet from Amorgos and often served up on joyous occasions such as weddings, baptisms, Easter and Christmas.
