Welcome to the Greek Island of Amorgos also known as the “Big Blue”; the water colour so impressive that director Luc Besson decided to film his famous movie “The Big Blue” (Le Grand Bleu) right here on our Island. Amorgos is the most eastern island in the Cyclades group of islands. Unlike our neighbouring Islands, Amorgos is not exploding with tourists and is still full of untouched nature. The dramatic scenery of steep mountain cliffs, kissing the deep blue ocean, will take your breath away.

Amorgos is full of small beaches to soak up our island’s sun and many small family-owned restaurants, to enjoy local authentic food. The roads along the coastline of Amorgos are exceptionally beautiful. Driving through them at times appears as if the deep blue colour bursts from the ocean, painting the entire island in shades of blue. You will find peace and tranquillity; and yes, you will find the big deep blue. (Or it will find you)

Arriving in Amorgos

Despite not having an airport, coming to Amorgos is simple through one of two ports: Aegiali and Katapola. Ferries come in and out of these two ports directly from the port of Pireaus, Athens and take approximately 6 to 8 hours depending on the vessel. You may also opt to fly into one of the neighbouring islands and catch a quick ferry ride over. For example, a plane ride from Athens to Naxos would take 1 hour and the ferry onwards to Katapola, Amorgos would take 1 hour and 30 minutes. Due to its geographical distance, the absence of giant chain hotels, and mass tourism, the travellers who choose to come to Amorgos are travellers seeking peace away from crowds and city noise.
